How To Sell On Flipkart – An Introductory Guide For Beginners

Flipkart is the leading marketplace in India. It provides equal opportunity for all sellers to have access to its huge customer base which is more than 10 crores. It is easy to sell on Flipkart. All you need is good product(s) to sell online.

Before you create seller account to sell on Flipkart, carefully decide the product category and finalize the products after doing proper research. When you select proper category, it will help customers find your products faster.

Requirements to sell on Flipkart:

  • GSTIN (not mandatory for few categories)
  • PAN Card
  • Bank account
  • KYC documents (Address Proof, and Cancelled cheque)

Create your seller account   and start listing products. You can start selling with even a single product. Remember, you can only list physical products and can not sell services.

There’s no listing fee. Flipkart charges some commission after your product is sold.

These are the commissions/ charges you have to pay after the sale of product.

  • Commission fee: A percentage of the order item value.
  • Collection fee which is based on order item value and payment mode (Prepaid/Cash on Delivery).
  • Fixed fee: A slab wise fixed fee. 
  • Shipping fee.

If you don’t feel confident about listing products don’t worry. Flipkart has third party ‘Ecommerce Service Providers’ who provide support at every level like listing products, photography, writing product descriptions and more. You can gain access to them in your seller dashboard under “Partner Services” tab.

Flipkart has made it very easy for new sellers to sell on Flipkart. Seller dashboard is user-friendly and you will get guidance at every step while listing and while processing orders.

Flipkart’s ‘Seller Learning Center’ will make you an expert in a short time. And, the seller support staff is always ready to guide you at every step.

Create listings to sell on Flipkart

Under Listings tab, click on Add new Listing:
Here you will find two options:
1. Create listings using products available on Flipkart.
Here you need to enter the brand and product name. You will be prompted to sell that product. Click on ‘Start Selling‘. After that you need to mention your selling price, SKU no., shipping etc. Once done, our listing will be live. 
2. Create listings for products that are not already available on Flipkart.
To add a single product, click on ‘Add a Single Listing‘. Then select the vertical (category) for your product, brand & the product.
Important:
Some brands require approval to sell online, you may be asked to provide the same. 
In case you don’t have brand approval, you can submit purchase invoice.
A purchase invoice is issued to you by your supplier (such as a manufacturer or distributor) when you buy products from them.
Checklist for purchase invoice:
  1. Includes invoice number and date that is not older than one year
  2. Includes your name, address, and GSTIN which is the same as in your Flipkart seller account
  3. Includes name, address, and GSTIN of your supplier (e.g. manufacturer or distributor)
  4. Includes product description with the brand name, model name, price, and quantity
  5. Consists of the signature and seal of the supplier (Optional)

Receive Orders

You can manage your orders through your seller dashboard. On receiving order, you will receive an alert in your seller dashboard and through email. After this, pack the product and mark it as ‘Ready to Despatch’ without any delay. Faster delivery of products helps improve your seller score.

You can order branded packing material from Flipkart’s packaging material providers. Be sure you follow the packaging guidelines to avoid damage in transit.

Shipping

Flipkart offer two shipping options:

Fulfilled by Flipkart(FBF)

When you choose this option, Flipkart will provide comprehensive solution from storing your products to expertly packing and shipping them to customers. Your products will also get FAssured badge that will increase trust of customers.

Non- Fulfillment by Flipkart(NFBF)

When you choose this option, it is your responsibility properly pack the products and mark it ready for dispatch. Flipkart agent will come to your location for pick-up.

 

After your product is successfully delivered, Flipkart will send the payment to your account within 7-15 business days.

Always do your business honestly. Be sure to follow code of ethics and never break any rules. After repeated violations, your account may get cancelled.
